Nintendo Power To Cease Publication
It has been confirmed that the iconic magazine will be ceasing publication after 24 long years. Nintendo Power is currently one of the longest-running magazines in the country (it has been published continuously since Summer 1988).
Nintendo produced and distributed the magazine themselves from 1989 to 2007. Future Publishing took the responsibility afterwards as Nintendo wanted a more independent angle.
Nintendo Power editors and staff were informed of the upcoming shut down last week, apparently. They are being transitioned to work on other magazines such as GamesRadar and MacLife. The move will not affect Future’s other gaming magazines (this includes PlayStation and Xbox brands and Best Buy’s @Gamer).
It is unknown how many more issues of Nintendo Power will be published, or how subscribers will even be compensated. According to Future press materials, Nintendo Power has a total monthly readership of 475,000.
Nintendo Power writer, Phil Theobald says they have “something pretty sweet planned for the final issue”.
So long, Nintendo Power. You will be missed.
